Eatontown Crest

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Since the March 10, 2020 correspondence was distributed to parents/guardians and placed on the district website, Eatontown Public Schools has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and preparing a Home Instruction Plan for all Preschool through 8th grade students. The Home Instruction Plan which is a combination of online as well as project-based learning opportunities is designed to provide students with meaningful educational activities and lessons if long-term school closures are needed due to COVID-19. The faculty and staff have been instrumental in the formation and development of this plan.

More specifically, students in grades Preschool through 1st grade were provided project kits to work on at home on Friday, March 13th. If your child was absent, please contact the school in order to obtain a project kit for your child to complete at home. You may email your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need feedback about the assignments. In addition, the Preschool through 1st grade teachers each have a Google Classroom page. As of Monday, March 16th, parents/guardians can obtain access to this page by logging in to the Genesis Parent Portal for the password.

Students in grades 2 – 8 will engage in online learning through Google Classroom. Students know their Google Classroom passwords already. If they forgot, please log on to the Genesis Parent Portal to find your child’s online passwords as of Monday, March 16th. Students will be able to access online materials in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, and the Special Areas. Each teacher in grades 2 – 8 has a Google Classroom page. Assignments will be updated as needed. Students and parents can interact with the teachers through email or through the Google Classroom page.

Faculty and staff will be available online to answer questions between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. when this plan is executed due to a long-term closure. If your child in grades 2 – 8 needs a computer, plans will be made in the future to provide your child with a school technology device. If a student in grades 2 – 8 does not have access to the internet, paper copies of the materials can be provided.

Thank you for your cooperation and attention. Please know that the district fully expects there will be some items to work out over time. The goal is to provide students with access to learning when the schools are closed for an extended period of time. This plan also helps school districts meet the 180-day requirement.

Sincerely,

Scott T. McCue

Superintendent of Schools
