Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Eatontown Borough is a diverse suburban town located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Eatontown is one of the few communities in New Jersey that closely mirrors the demographic makeup of the state.
Eatontown Public Schools recognizes and values the diversity of persons and groups within society and promotes the acceptance of persons of diverse backgrounds regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, affectional or sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, disability, or socioeconomic status. The district promotes equal educational and employment opportunity and fosters a learning environment that is free from all forms of prejudice, discrimination, and harassment in the policies, programs, and practices within the district.
Eatontown Public Schools values the benefits that a diverse faculty and staff have on its students. Research shows that all students benefit when a district employs more team members of color and increases the diversity among school faculty and staff. One recent study suggests that exposure to even one teacher of the same race for students in the elementary grade levels not only helps with short-term educational benefits, but also improves the longevity of students' academic careers, lowering drop-out rates in high school, and increasing the likelihood that students will take college entrance exams (source). Furthermore, there have been many studies supporting the concept that diversity improves problem-solving outcomes and increases innovation within groups (source).
To this end, Eatontown Public Schools is deeply committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our daily work includes ongoing efforts to create a school community in which all faculty, staff, and students are welcomed, respected, and participate in the learning process. Eatontown Public Schools is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. As an inclusive employer that represents a diverse school community, individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply to posted positions.
