Our students have been very busy tending to our trout and tower garden. The trout are getting bigger and students are busy testing the pH of water, along with the amount of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. High levels could potentially kill our young fish.
Students after the Winter Break planted seeds of arugula, basil, spinach, lemon balm, sweet marigold, rainbow chard and tomato. They will be placed in the tower when they are approximately two inches tall. This has been a huge learning experience for them. They have had to deal with an influx of aphids, learn how they can eliminate them, test the pH of the water and general maintenance of the tower.
In a few weeks, students will begin planting our flower seeds so that they can be planted in our courtyard in the spring.
